Frequently Asked Questions

Please contact us on admin@thespotco.com.au if you cannot find an answer to your question.

About Our Approach

Neurodiversity recognises that all brains develop differently, including autism, ADHD, dyslexia, and other developmental differences. A neurodiversity-affirming approach focuses on strengths, identity, and meaningful supports rather than trying to make children appear “typical.”

At The Speech & OT Co., we work holistically with each child, celebrating their strengths and supporting areas where they need help.

We use a strengths-based, neurodiversity-affirming approach and focus on real-life goals that matter to families. We prioritise participation, confidence, relationships, and independence rather than compliance or masking behaviours.

We collaborate closely with families, schools, and other professionals to create consistent and supportive environments.

Our Services

Speech pathologists support communication, including speech sounds, understanding and using language, and alternative communication methods such as visuals, key word signs, or AAC.

We empower children to communicate confidently across home, school, and community settings.

Occupational therapists support daily skills such as dressing, eating, handwriting, play, sensory regulation, and emotional regulation.

We work with families and educators to create supportive routines and environments tailored to each child.

At The Speech & OT Co., age ranges vary slightly by location:

  • Chelsea Heights: We see children aged 0–12 years.
  • Glenroy: We see children and adolescents aged 0–16 years.

If you're unsure whether your child is within our service range, feel free to contact our team.

Sessions are available at our Glenroy and Chelsea Heights clinics, as well as outreach in homes, schools, kindergartens, and childcares within our service area.

Early Intervention & Development

Early intervention supports key developmental periods for communication, motor skills, play, and emotional regulation. Supporting children early can build strong foundations and increase participation and confidence.

Early intervention is about empowering children and families, not changing who a child is.

No. Children and young people can benefit from therapy at any age. We tailor goals and supports to each child’s developmental stage and family priorities.

Waitlists & Accessing Services

To begin the booking process, please complete our Intake Form. Our admin team will contact you when a suitable appointment becomes available.

Waitlists are common in paediatric allied health due to high demand and limited clinician availability. We carefully match children with clinicians based on needs, location, and availability to ensure safe and effective care.

Our waitlist is currently approximately 3–12 months, depending on location, availability, and support needs. Please contact us for current wait time updates.

Being flexible with appointment times and locations (e.g., clinic-based sessions) can increase the chance of an earlier appointment.

You can follow our Instagram for practical strategies and education, speak with your child’s school or GP about interim supports, and implement strategies shared by your therapist once you begin services.

Intake Meeting and First Sessions

Your first appointment is a 60-minute intake session with your therapist and a parent or carer. This session focuses on understanding your child, your concerns, and planning next steps.

The intake session is parent/carer-focused and primarily for information gathering and planning . Your child will attend from the first face-to-face session.

If available, bring any relevant reports, school information, or previous assessments. If you don’t have these, that’s completely okay.

That’s very common. Your therapist will help you identify meaningful goals based on your concerns and your child’s strengths.

You will receive full transparency about estimated fees before your first session in your allocation call and service agreement, including both session and report costs.

Ongoing Therapy

Every child is different. Some children need short-term support, while others benefit from ongoing therapy. We review goals regularly and adjust plans as needed.

Session frequency depends on your child’s needs, goals, and family capacity. Your therapist will recommend a plan that is sustainable and effective.

Yes. Parents and carers are encouraged to attend sessions to support carryover of strategies at home, school, and in the community.

Progress notes are completed after each session. Reports can be provided for schools, funding bodies, or medical professionals when required.
